MOGUL NEWSLETTER JUNE 2003

4 July 2003

Dear Fellow Brahman Breeders

What an eventful year it has been for all Brahman breeders, especially in NSW!

The highlight was the 40th Anniversary Sydney Royal Feature Show, which was universally acknowledged as a resounding success.

The excellent coverage in the latest issue of Brahman News can be accessed via www.brahman.com.au under “Latest News”.

The Saturday night dinner brought together over sixty past and present exhibitors and office-bearers in a night of reminiscences and happy exchanges.  It was particularly pleasing to see Elsie De Landelles and Graeme and Ros Bauer, and our guest speaker Ian Armstrong MP and his lovely wife Jenny.  John Park and Bob Berry — the first Chairman and Secretary of the NSW Branch of the Australian Brahman Breeder’s Association — also enjoyed the evening.

Our Principal, Dr George Jacobs, was awarded life membership of the Australian Brahman Breeder’s Association, in recognition of his contribution to the advancement of the breed and the association in NSW over many years.

Mogul Stud was successful in winning four classes at Sydney Royal Easter Show 2003 including both performance classes, with Mogul Oakwood and Mogul Namoi Manso.  We also won the Schute Bell junior heifer show at Sydney 2003, with Mogul Miss Skye 2nd.  All three of these animals are certified two-star tender by the new Genestar DNA test.

Mogul Stud Manager, Glen Pfeffer, collected the best individual herdsman award for the 18th time.

Progeny of Kabala Skye, including Mogul Oakwood and Mogul Miss Skye, continue to impress.  Mogul Oakwood has now won his class at three major Queensland shows — Royal Brisbane 2002, Gympie Feature Show 2003, and Rockhampton Show 2003, where he was also Senior Champion Bull.  Mogul Miss Skye was Supreme Exhibit at the Maclean Show 2003.

Scoring the double in the senior bull championships at Rockhampton 2003 was Mogul MK Norton, as Reserve Senior Champion Bull.  We are proud to offer this red bull in the Select Sires Section at the 2003 Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale.  He will be joined by four top grey sires — Mogul Nevada, Mogul Nike, Mogul Namoi Manso and Mogul Omaha.

Our annual production offering direct from the property includes animals sired by:

JDH Karu Manso

JDH Navasota Manso

JDH Norseman

Jay-W Sir Bruce

Lancefield D Robinson

Mogul Kama.

In addition to our usual range of bulls (stud and herd) we are pleased to offer PTIC first calf grey females and a wide range of unjoined, grey heifers.

We have Breedplan figures available for the cattle on offer.  Our Breedplan figures for 200-day, 400-day and 600-day EBVs continue to exceed the Brahman Group Breedplan National Averages.

As briefly mentioned above, our performance Brahman breeding program has been further enhanced by the recent results from Genestar testing.  Of thirteen animals tested, ten have been classified as two-star and three as one-star — an excellent result!

We welcome your enquiries.  Our gate is always open to our valued clientele and new breeders.
